Womex

Global Arts Management was selected by Canada Council to be part of the CC delegation at Womex in Denmark. Congratulations to my manager, Josh Keller! Let's hope a European tour is in my future:-)

What the press is saying...

"The album, Folklore, ranks among her best efforts. Her singing is at times reminiscent of Norah Jones, Rickie Lee Jones and Joni Mitchell. Yet Moore's honeyed, dreamy sound is inarguably her own."

Adrian Chamberland - The Vancouver Sun

Mae Moore and friends will be playing at the Belfry Arts Centre on Thursday, March 3rd, 2011. This special performance will be a CD release concert for Mae’s new album Folklore and the first stop in her national cross-country tour. Joining her onstage are musicians Marc Atkinson, Daniel Lapp, Rick May, and Joby Baker.

Blessed with an artist’s eye, Mae Moore has been writing for over thirty-five years, and her songs have been heard in major movie soundtracks, hit television shows and all over the radio. With two Juno nominations, two Socan awards and many chart successes, Mae has forged a career that has found her sharing stages with Sarah McLachlan John Hiatt, Marianne Faithfull, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Richard Thompson and other folk/rock luminaries.

Most recently, Mae has been back in the recording studio working again with Joby Baker (Alex Cuba, Cowboy Junkies, The Bills) in a project of new compositions and experiences, ones that come from a lifetime of pursuing that which she loves. The Canadian focused album Folklore will be released in 2011, and the companion art book with a digital download of the new album is now available. A talented painter, Mae will also have some of her artwork on display at the Belfry show.

“Moore’s voice is a wonder, a round-toned, burnished instrument-like Lester Young’s tenor sax or Clifford Brown’s trumpet – that has been too long hidden north of the border.”
-Scott Nygaard, Acoustic Guitar Magazine

Though Moore’s greatest skill is at writing a simple folk tune, she also explores a jazz side... That keeps up with the Joneses – both Norah and Rickie Lee.”
-Charles R. Cross, No Depression Magazine

Folklore preview

Hello dear friends.......I have posted a sneak preview of one of the songs from my upcoming release, entitled Folklore. One of the new songs is called "Tom Thomson's Mandolin" I hope you like it!!! Click on 'listen' and let me know what you think.

archival song

Hi folks,

I was just sent a song from 1992 or so, that I have never recorded on a album. It's a song called 'Dog Days of Summer', and this was from the Winter Roots Festival in Vancouver, hosted by Steve Edge of the Rogue Folk Club. That's Stephen Fearing inducing me and joining me on acoustic guitar. Go to 'Listen' to, listen. I'm hoping that this will tide you over until I post some new songs from my upcoming album, Folklore. I'm back in the studio with Joby next week and then it's mix time! So far Joby,  Marc Atkinson, Rick May, Daniel Lapp and Scott Sheerin are blessing this record with their talents.....I'm a lucky duck.

If you would like to be one of the first people to be informed of the release, drop me an email. As well, I am releasing a limited pressing of my artbook, also entitled Folklore, that will contain a digital download card of the entire album and full colour plates of some of my artwork. If this interests you, let me know. I'm only pressing 350 in the first run.

I've been working on a record...

....all the livelong day

I've been working on a record

Just to pass the time away.

For you folks who keep asking, I am working with Joby Baker and plan on having my new album out in 2011. I am

very excited about this one..............more soon!

halfway through pruning trees

We've almost sewn up January...still a few more trees to prune. The snowdrops are up and I have started my onion seeds in flats. Two days ago, I was in the recording studio with Joby, laying down "The Rain Song", a tune that I wrote over 30 years ago, but never released. Now it's time. I had so much fun......you can't believe how talented Joby Baker is.....a wonderful human being, to boot. My dear friend Rick May came up to have supper with us, and then Scott Sheerin dropped by to lay down some soulful soprano saxophone. It all feels right....... Sold a painting, too! The stars must be aligned in my favour......I am blessed. I am working on some tour dates for the summer.(see calendar) Give what you can to those less fortunate. Thanks for checking in with me!

A New Year....

Greetings to you dear people and may 2010 bring you good health, good governance and great music. It is New Year's Eve as I write this entry and I have been reflecting all day on the state of the planet and those I love. I have been painting, but also recording a few new songs with my lovely and talented friend, Joby Baker. I really don't know what form these recordings will take; a new CD or ?? I am also lining up some solo concerts for 2010 and I will be posting that info in the spring, after I finish pruning the apple trees. Please be kind to the animals, plant a tree, and grow a garden.....oh! and drop me a line when the spirit moves you.

Time to plant the potatoes

Weird weather....but my peas are up in spite of it all! I planted 1200, mostly shelling peas, a month ago. They are a variety called Green Arrow, a heritage pea and very delicious. Last week,I got to hang out with Joby Baker and we are now brewing an idea to do some writing together. He was over here to play bass with Lester and my new favourite drummer, Billy Hicks. Great fun was had by all. I have an art show coming up next month, so I better get to it and finish the piece I am working on, before the weather gets nice and I won't be able to keep myself in the house!.....keep the faith through days like these.......

February...

It is February, the month of my birth, and there are brave snowdrops stretching to meet the sun. They are not aware of the concerns of humankind. It's as if everything is accelerating and snowballing. You can either get caught up in it, watch it from the side or try hard to focus on something else.I am doing the latter, and in this case , the ladder as I have been pruning the old orchard again.I am painting, I am playing my guitar, I am planning. I am not watching television.I am signing petitions. I am praying in my own way. I have been helping my husband launch his new cd, 'The Same Light'. It is a wonderful collection of originals in the roots/jazz/folk vein. Pete Seeger and I have the wonderful distinction of each having a song covered by Lester on this recording. Check it out on cdbaby.......http://cdbaby.com/cd/quitzau4 Take good care of each other.....

Autumn leaves

Autumn leaves me feeling really connected to the earth. It is prime apple harvest time and the King, Bramley,Gala, Bell de Boscoupe, Mutsu and Akana varities have been providing us with pies, crisps, crumbles, juice and my favourite...fresh picked right off the tree. Our two dogs also love apples and eat several a day as snacks. Life is good...we're so lucky to eat from the garden and we want nothing......okay, maybe world peace, a clean sustainable environment and leaders who actually do positive change. I have been painting and will post some new work up here soon. I was also off the island, singing on Lester Quitzau's soon-to-be-released new recording!! There is a new song of mine on there, that he has recorded, complete with horns!! I've been working away at things for Red Cedar Songwriter Camp 2009. It's going to be great.Lots of old friends and this includes Chris Frye from The Bills! Go to the 'links' section to find out more. Stay warm out there and write when you can...............

Nice to know you're out there!

Well, this new site has been up for about a month now and it has been so wonderful to hear from some of you. I'm not touring as much as I used to, for various reasons. Musically, I have been busy co-ordinating Red Cedar Songwriter Camp 2008 as well as getting some new songs together for the shows that I am doing this summer. I have been painting and gardening....today I planted many Hubbard squash seeds. Last week I planted over 100 asparagus crowns. Grow, eat, give away, put away as much local organic food as you can.It will feel good, guaranteed.

new website

Hi dear friends......with spring finally here, I decided it was time for a bit of a new look. There will be art for viewing, music for listening and photos of things I'm growing. I hope that you'll get in touch and enjoy a walk through the garden.... blessings.... Mae
